WCNY Presents Pulso Central: Central New York’s First Spanish-Language Radio Station

WCNY, Central New York’s public communications organization, is proud to announce Central New York’s first Spanish-language radio initiative, Pulso Central, debuting on September 15 during Hispanic Heritage Month.

This new community-supported station will feature music, and local and national shows hosted by talented individuals discussing a range of topics relevant to the Spanish-speaking population in Central New York and the Mohawk Valley.

Pulso Central will reach 19 counties on WCNY 91.3 HD-2 in Syracuse, WUNY 89.5 HD-2 in Utica, and WJNY 90.9 HD-2 in Watertown. It will also be accessible online at pulsocentral.com and streaming on the Pulso Central app – coming soon!

“The creation of Pulso Central marks a thrilling and significant breakthrough for the growing Spanish-speaking community of Central New York,” said Teresita Paniagua, executive director of the Office of Cultural Engagement for the Hispanic Community at Syracuse University and co-chair of the Pulso Central development task force. “The station is poised to become a vital resource, reflecting the vibrant mix of Hispanic and Latino cultures and effectively engaging these populations like no other local or regional medium does.”

“Pulso Central is the Latino community showcase to Central New York and the world,” said Renzo Quesada, a local Syracuse DJ and the on-station music host for Pulso Central. “I’m so happy and excited to have the opportunity to represent and serve as an outlet for the Latino community in the area. As I always say, life is wonderful with music, and Pulso Central will fill your life with music, a lot of azúcar, and positive vibes.”

The station is being released by WCNY, which is providing the technological support and distribution for Pulso Central. A task force of more than 25 regional leaders from the Spanish-speaking community partnered to develop the station.

Regional businesses and restaurants are among the early sponsors of the station, and the Central New York Community Foundation and the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties have joined to become the station’s initial Founding Partner.

“We are thrilled to help launch Pulso Central,” said Mitch Gelman, WCNY’s president and CEO. “Our goal is to provide a platform that will come alive with music and talk that engages listeners and fosters community connection.”
