WCNY will begin airing “PBS NewsHour Weekend,” a new 30-minute show airing Saturdays and Sundays at 5 p.m. beginning Sept. 21 and 22 on WCNY.

The show will be anchored by Hari Sreenivasan, a veteran “NewsHour” correspondent and director of digital partnerships. It will continue PBS NewsHour’s tradition of delivering in-depth analysis of the day’s national and international news, using renowned experts to offer analysis.

Each weekend broadcast will contain original, in-depth reporting on topics including education, healthcare, the economy, energy, science and technology, religion, finance and the arts.

The Saturday program will be followed on WCNY by the weekly public affairs program “Charlie Rose: The Week,” which currently airs at 12:30 p.m. Sundays. The Sunday airing of “PBS NewsHour Weekend” will be followed on WCNY by a new 13-part entrepreneurial series called “Start Up.”

At the same time, the “PBS NewsHour” website www.pbs.org/newshour, will feature more news; expert commentary; reporting on politics, science, the arts, health; and international news. Social media also be integrated into the show, inviting conversation with viewers.

“It’s an evolution in NewsHour’s commitment to being a reliable, trusted news source that’s available anywhere, anytime, weekdays, weekends and online,” Sreenivasan said.
