Innovate to Educate, Episode 24 – Rockwell Elementary’s Community Garden Project

Rockwell Elementary School in the Onondaga Central School District launched a Community Garden Project to introduce young students to diverse cultures through gardening and agriculture. Over five weeks, children explored Mexican/Spanish, Native American, and African-American food cultures. The program was composed primarily of incoming Kindergarten students, helping the school’s youngest children develop a sense of pride and belonging in the school community from their earliest experience. In this Innovate to Educate, host Jody Manning finds out more about the program from Principal Katie Killmore, educator Jess Hass, and students Sesilia Killmore and Charlotte Scribner.
