Getting Involved

By Luke Lawn

The seasons are changing from fall to winter in New York State. The weather starts to cool and thoughts of snow approach, but the community remains active! WCNY has adopted the spirit of fall and has plenty of shows and community events hosted before the weather gets too cold. It is truly an exciting time of year as the holiday season approaches.

Halloween takes place next week and there are plenty of holiday activities for community members to enjoy. WCNY is hosting Halloween themed TV broadcasts for the week prior to Oct. 31. This includes a new showing of a Curious George one-hour special on Oct. 28 as well as the Oct. 31 at 8 a.m.! There is also a broadcast of Arthur and the haunted tree house Oct. 25 at 6:30 a.m. These programs will air on WCNY, along with many other holiday themed shows.

I believe that it is important for the community, young and old, to show their support of the holiday spirit and take part in the festivities. Syracuse University engages the community by bringing children to dorms to trick or treat. I participated for the two years I lived in dorms and believe that it is a great opportunity for students and the children alike. The children get to see what Syracuse University is like first-hand and also get to leave with bag fulls of candy! The students get to be involved in an event that gives back to the community that has been our home.

As the leaves continue to fall, be sure to check out how you can get yourself involved by visiting the WCNY website. Here you can find more information about current events and a full television schedule to checkout programs that you can watch.
