Firebarn Chats, Episode 6 – Syracuse’s Diverse Architecture

Federal, Greek Revival, Colonial, Art Deco, Queen Anne, Italianate. Varied forms of architecture, all of which are present in the Syracuse area. In this edition of Firebarn Chats, host Madelyn Kelly talks with Dr. Sam Gruber, American art and architecture historian and preservationist. They discuss the significance of this wonderful variety of architecture all around us, and the influence of people like Gustav Stickley and Ward Wellington Ward, going all the way back to the construction techniques of the native Haudenosaunee.

Two events of interest coming up for local art aficionados and preservationists: A half-day symposium on October 19, “The Arts and Crafts Movement in Central New York.” And, on November 8, the 50th Anniversary Celebration for the Preservation Association of Central New York.
