WCNY Community Connect

“WCNY Community Connect” is a new, occasional series featuring coverage of events that reflect the hearts and souls of the communities that we serve in Central New York and the Mohawk Valley. We reside in a community that takes immense pride in uplifting one another. We are all committed to improving education, economic opportunity, and the quality of life across our villages, towns, and cities. There is so much hapenning that raises our spirits, from music festivals and farmers markets to antique car shows, school graduations, dance recitals, and other gatherings that enrich our magnificent region.

“WCNY Community Connect” aims to recognize the special moments that highlight this intrinsic character of our area. In the month’s ahead, keep an eye out for new episodes featuring the resurgence of the native book trout in our northern waterways and Porchfest—a musical celebration that started in Tompkins County and is spreading across the country and throughout the globe.

This “WCNY Community Connect” episode captures a recent Faiths United for Peace gathering organized by InterFaith Works and hosted at Onondaga Community College. The group brought together a cross-denominational coalition of faith leaders who united in song and prayer to inspire hope for the Middle East, Ukraine, Sudan, and Congo.

Brought to the Nancy Cantor Warehouse in Syracuse’s Near Westside by SU’s La Casita Cultural Center and the University of Texas, “The Border is a Weapon” is an art exhibit from Laredo, Texas. It explores the concept that the border between Mexico and the U.S. is more than a strict boundary separating two nations.
