Central Current Radio, Ep. 57 – Syracuse University Professor Josh Darr on Political Polarization

Political polarization has become one of the most defining themes of our current era. Americans see their party affiliation as part of their identity in increasingly strong ways, and as local news resources shrink – more attention than ever is being paid to national politics. Syracuse University Professor Josh Darr of the Newhouse school, joins hosts Dr. Rick Wright and Maximilian Eyle on this episode of Central Current Radio to discuss the costs of sacrificing local politics for national, the role newspapers play in fighting polarization, and the difference between being a “political hobbyist” versus authentic participation. Prof. Darr is also a senior researcher at Syracuse University’s Institute for Democracy, Journalism, and Citizenship.
