WCNY, Central New York’s public communications organization, is thrilled to announce that applications are now open for the winter session of WCNY’s Entertainment Academy, with classes scheduled to start on Jan. 2, 2025. WCNY’s Entertainment Academy is a fourteen-week training program offered two times a year (fall and winter sessions) in the TV and film production trades. The Academy provides training for the next generation of television and film production engineers, electricians, set designers, sound mixers, and camera operators to help support the growing entertainment industry in Central New York. Dan Cummings’ guest on this edition of CNY Heroes is Ryan Dean, anchor/reporter for NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) in Syracuse.  Ryan is an Emmy-award winning reporter on veterans’ issues and has covered two Honor Flight Syracuse missions to Washington, most recently Mission 21 in September. He also reports and produces a special program, “Veterans Voices,” which airs every November on NewsChannel 9. His next special airs on November 7 and will be posted after that on the Veterans Voices page.
