WCNY’s popular “Movie and a Cookie’’ presents a screening of “Follow that Bird” at 2 p.m. Dec. 30 at the Red House Arts Center, 201 South West St. in Syracuse. WCNY to host community Shred-A-Thon

WCNY will host a communitywide Shred-A-Thon from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at its headquarters located at 506 Old Liverpool Road in Liverpool. WCNY staff members will begin shredding efforts earlier in the day as part of their preparations to move to Syracuse’s Near Westside. The public is invited to bring items to shred as part of this green initiative that can help protect consumers from identity theft. Suggested items to shred include old checkbooks, financial statements, old bills, contracts, manuscripts and personal letters. A $5 donation is suggested. WCNY’s 8th annual ‘Treehouse Tales Young Writers and Illustrators Contest’ begins Jan. 2

WCNY will begin accepting entries for its 8th annual Treehouse Tales Young Writers and Illustrators Contest Jan 2. The annual event, open to students in grades 1-4, promotes literacy and creative expression by encouraging children to write and illustrate their own stories. Students in WCNY’s 19-county viewing area are eligible to enter the contest. The deadline for all entries is March 1.
