Weekdays 6:30 a.m.–6 p.m. on WCNY-TV.

Now that many schools have closed for the next few weeks, you might be wondering how to ensure that your child’s learning does not stop. WCNY would like to support you in creating authentic and joyful learning experiences at home, especially now that at-home learning has become more important than ever. Every week, we will provide you with a weekly schedule that can help you add structure to your children’s learning routine. The schedule includes:

  1. Curated educational content suggestions for all grade levels
  2. Ideas for fun activities you can do at home
  3. Guidelines on how to balance educational screen time with other types of playful learning

Here’s this week’s schedule:

As you plan your child’s at-home learning routine, keep in mind the following tips:

  1. Maintain a healthy balance of screen time and other types of playful learning experiences.
  2. Tune in to PBS KIDS programming on WCNY-TV for curated educational content for children in Pre-K through 12th grade. Check grids for times.
  3. Visit PBS LearningMedia for free PBS KIDS standards-aligned videos, lesson plans, and other resources about Math, English Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Social-Emotional learning.
  4. Practice co-viewing with your children by asking questions and helping them connect what they see on the screens in front of them with the world around them.
  5. Create designated spaces and times in your home that are just meant for reading. Co-reading can be a great way to expand children’s vocabularies–not to mention their imagination! If your child is building their reading skills, have them read out loud to you. If they are already proficient in reading, allow them to read silently on their own and share with you their favorite part.
  6. Don’t forget to relax! Learning all day can be a lot of fun, but don’t forget to build in break times. Get outside and walk the dog, relax on a picnic blanket in the backyard, or have a delicious snack.
